Overview

The OPEN Space Project ran from October 2021 to June 2022. The Space project was funded by the Ideas Fund who is backed by the British Science Association.

Shannon and Akira were employed to use peer research methodology to work alongside young people in Shetland to gather their views and tell their story. The project came about due a perceived lack of welcoming spaces for young people within Shetland, to understand the successes within our community and the shortfalls. Interested to hear more about this project?

The recommendations from this project called for a welcoming, warm space and accessible space for young people that they had ownership of. The research was shared with strategic partners which led to Shetlands local authority set up a Youth Hub in Lerwick to provide a space for young people.
